What is FR & how is it achieved?
FR stands for “flame-retardant” and “flame resistant,” which helps to slow the burning when materials are exposed to open flames. All car seats sold in the US are required to meet the federal Flammability of Interior Materials standard (CMVSS 302), often achieved by adding brominated and chlorinated chemicals.
No Added FR Chemicals
Our fabrics are naturally flame-retardant, which means there’s no need for added chemicals on your child’s skin. Available on select fashions.
Safe to machine wash and dry
To achieve flame retardancy, some brands utilize merino wool, which often can’t be put in the dryer after washing according to its care instructions. Thanks to SafeWash, not only are our fabrics free of FR chemicals, they’re also washer and dryer-friendly to get you back on the road faster.

Yes, the tightly woven fabric construction of your naturally flame-retardant cover is safe for machine washing and drying. Since there is no added FR chemical treatment, you don’t have to worry about the agitation cycle breaking it down. For best results, follow the care label instructions and replace the cover after 30 washes to maintain optimal quality and prevent fading.
